Hi I am Laura and I have simply loved food all my life. I remember being a little girl and playing at pretending to be a chef. When I was around 9 years old, my mother taught me how to cook and how important it was for me to learn this skill, not only for myself, but also to help my family out as I had a full time working parents.

Cooking became a tool to be the creator of my independence, and more importantly, a powerful tool to be part of my family in a very helpful way.  Once I moved from home I was ready to take on the important task of feeding myself and all of the little steps that lead to the preparation of a dish.

In this period of my life pleasure overtook all aspects of food: the way I prepared it and the way I consumed it.

I was chasing deals at the grocery store, I was trying to reproduce dishes I used to eat at home, but most importantly….

By the way, I thought I was eating healthily because I was eating fruits and vegetables and not eating fast food. Which is a good start of course, but there was so much more to explore.

Some signs of imbalance I noticed were:

In my mid-twenties I started to experiment with the way I ate and of course, with the way I cooked. Little by little I started to see changes in my body. Trades that I thought were normal and there was nothing I could do about it.  This was the way my body was built and I just needed to accept it.

Slowly, but steadily, I started to develop a relationship with my food from a nutritional point of view. Of course taste and deliciousness were still factors, but I learned to prioritize this aspect as much as possible, because I knew the way it will positively affect my body.

I entered the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition because I was interested in learning how to cook more healthily,  as I felt overwhelmed with the amount of recipes and information out there. When I  started to learn about nutrition and the theoretical part of if I just felt that the changes that I needed to make in my own life, and those that I wanted to teach, made sense.

Healthy eating can and does affect the way we live our lives. The way we take care of ourselves and therefore, our most precious asset: our family.  I have the complete certainty about owning back our kitchen and running it like a boss.

Nowadays we are so lucky to live in a world that is offering healthy options for when we don’t have enough time to do it all.  But, at the same time, healthy cooking can be learned and mastered, It is a lot like exercising, we sometimes don’t feel like it but we just have to do it.

Some tough love for you, because I think it is a necessary tool to have when wanting to live a healthier life. Now, I am not saying that you should cook all the time. I am saying you should cook smarter…
